SOUND CHECK takes Altano-Rennen (L.) at Hoppegarten (21.04.2018)

Jockey Andrasch Starke had only praise for SOUND CHECK after the race. The five-year-old brother of our France-based sire SCALO proved to have matured since last year and made it easy for Starke to position him tightly hugging the inner rails to enter the deep stretch having saved quite a bit of ground. When Starke took the colt to task, Sound Check responded immediately and effortlessly jumped away from the field by several lengths. After 2800 m at the wire, the pair had put 2 1/4 lengths between themselves and the impressively strong field of this €27,000 Listed challenge which was suitably named after the Ittlingen-bred stayer crack ALTANO, who is famous for winning Germany's longest group race, the Oleader-Rennen, three times in a row.

Perhaps it makes for a good omen, because we will most likely see the Peter Schiergen-trained SOUND CHECK in four weeks in Hoppegarten again when he entes the starting gates for the 47th running of the Oleander-Rennen!
